This initiative, organised by the BIR (Bureau of International Recycling), aims to make the entire population aware of the necessity and urgency of protecting our planet. Recycling is a major ecological issue and helps to combat the proliferation of waste by recovering it.

The selective sorting and recycling of waste allows us to reduce the pollution of the planet while preserving natural resources. Small gestures, at home or in the workplace, help to protect the environment and build a more responsible society.

At SIG, we recycle our way to zero waste

In the same way as our Zero Paper Policy or our dematerialisation of documentsThe management of waste in our offices and the awareness of our employees about recycling is a priority. They illustrate our desire to be a responsible company that is concerned about limiting its environmental impact.
World Recycling Day is an opportunity for us to talk about the importance of waste separation. On this World Recycling Day, we are sharing with you one of our targeted actions zero waste recycling of used batteries.
SIG uses the services of a government-approved eco-organisation responsible for collecting used portable batteries. We have thus become a "collection point" by providing our employees with collection bins. This clearly voluntary approach allows us to play a more active role in preserving the environment.

Recycling, an environmental and public health issue

Batteries are made up of heavy and toxic metals (zinc, manganese, iron, nickel, etc.). Recycling them is a major challenge in France, where there are more than 30,000 tonnes of them!
Therefore, retraining is essential.
Used batteries are the most polluting part of our household waste. It is important to ensure that they are sorted separately from other waste streams, so that they do not end up in landfill.
Minimising the release of spent batteries into the environment is also a public health issue. In addition to being a danger to the environment, they represent a threat to our health. Indeed, the heavy metals that compose them can cause intoxication, neurological disorders, diseases of the nervous system, kidney problems, etc.

A used battery can also be given a new life!

All used batteries and small batteries can be recycled, including rechargeable batteries.
80% of the battery materials can be recycled! The recycling of batteries allows the production of other metal parts such as cans, car parts, or even more simply... new batteries!
Also, returning batteries to collection points helps to save energy and raw materials.

We all have a role to play in helping the planet! World Recycling Day reminds us of this!
At home or in the office, think of the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
We invite you to deposit your used batteries in the containers located in our offices in Vélizy-Villacoublay (78) or in Aix-en-Provence!

Speaking of games... Are you a recycling pro?
